Briar Rose Overslept

Post by Bejami »

Clarence King Jr., the renowned archaeologist, entered the chamber. The air tingled with faded fairy magic, and he could see a skeleton in royal dress sunk into the moldering remains of a feather bed.

He leaned over to examine the specimen, slipped, and crashed forward. His face brushed up against the remains. A tooth fell from the dry jaw. There was a smacking sound as he pulled away.

The whole complex echoed with clacking sounds. In front of him, the skeleton rose. With a halting, sandpaper whisper, it spoke. “The son of a King has finally come to awaken me.”

Bejami, you are on fire lately!! I'll have whatever you're drinking. ;)

I absolutely adore the punchline of this one. I just about choked on my tea when it hit me. :D

I think the very last sentence could use a bit of tweaking, mainly because I can't really picture a skull mouthing anything. Without lips, all you've got is a jaw moving up and down, so difficult to lip-read. Perhaps since it's already magical, just go ahead and give it an audible voice. But you could still embrace the creepiness - make it dry and rattling like old bones, or whatever floats your fancy.

By the way, that title? Perfection.
