Drabbslations

I've been asked to identify and translate worthy drabbles to translate for foreign use. No, they don't pay. Yes, I know everything here is theoretically in public domain. Nevertheless, I would like to ask for both (a) leads to translation-worthy drabbles, such as this:

and, (b) explicit permissions from their authors to publish the resulting translations.

I don't even think you need permission to publish a translation of the creative commons disclaimer. But nice of you to ask. I'd love to see myself translated into Cyrillic.

Thanks for explicitly asking, and while you've already said as much, I strongly recommend making sure you have individual permission from each author you want to translate, as authors DO legally retain rights for things they choose to publish electronically, even in such a public forum as this. The Creative Commons license applies to the podcast, but I wouldn't take for granted it applies to this forum, and different people might have different feelings on the matter.

This is similar to how photographers retain copyright for their photos and do not automatically grant people permission to use them as blog illustrations unless the photographer has officially stated they're available for free use. Even then, usually the photographer will require that attribution be included, etc.

Foreign-language rights are notably separate from electronic/print rights in the world of publishing. It's also worth noting that the Creative Commons license specifies that you can't change anything, and translation would be changing it.

Given that, could you give us a few more details about the nature of your project, and where the stories would be distributed, and in what language? That way, authors know what they're agreeing to, and everyone's happy. Plus, I'm really interested in what you're doing. It sounds like it might be something cool.

and now they are about to publish Picky, a drabble of nine, and arlooking for more drabbles to translate. I'll vet Strawman's (since he gave his kind permission) drabbles and select the most translatable, and will do so for others who give permissions as well.
