The Odyssey of Lepidoptera

Post by ROU Killing Time » Thu Jul 09, 2009 10:20 pm

Locust had come.

Hordes of stellar masses feasted upon the star fields of Butterfly's home.

Butterfly fled.

She passed an endless Sargasso charred and consumed by Locusts passing.

Her gossamer wings, spanning a gas giant and etched with the timeless and beautiful story of her people, glowed dimly as her long journey of aeons neared its end.

Ahead she felt warmth and light.

With her dwindling reserves she approached, extending her feeder to drink deep and shine bright one last time.

Below, the denizens of planet Phlox looked up in amazement to see peace resting in the skies above them.

Just want to start off saying I actually intend for this to be the basis of a short-story.

I figured if I could capture the gestalt in a drabble though, that might help distill out the core of what I'm after.

Have lots to say about the life style and general bad manners of Locust, as well as life-cycle, culture, and mega-biology that are inherent in Butterly's race.

No room in the drabble for any mention of what's going on with the new civilization on planet Phlox, but I intend the story to have a thread there too.

Let me know if you all think it's worth pursuing.

I like.
You're my quasi-ichthian angel, you're my half-amphibian queen...

Sentence #5 is clumsy :-(

I need to re-work that one.
****
There, I think that's better.
****
<Sentence #5 revised version>
Her gossamer wings, spanning a gas giant and etched with the timeless and beautiful story of her people, glowed dimly as her long journey of aeons neared it's end.
****
<Sentence #5 original version>
Spanning a gas giant her gossamer wings, etched with the timelessly beautiful story of her people, now glowed dimly as she neared the end of her journey of aeons.
