ROU Yay or Nay

Post by ROU Killing Time » Fri Jul 17, 2009 9:08 am

Well, I've been drabbling pretty heavy now, (hey the forum heading says post as often as you like, hope they don't have to change that because of me...)

Curious about what, if any works, so thought I'd use the magic of internet polling to gather some highly scientific data.

Could not put all of the drabbles because it made the poll too big :P

If you want to write-in one that isn't on there, please do.

I also wanted to have a poll option entitled "ROU, Please stop writing drabbles now, dammit!" so you can write in that option too if you want :-)

I like being the first vote. 100% is a mandate!

I voted for Vengeance Is Mine, but also liked The Miser & The Lapidary.

I liked the poll idea, I think that I will steal it.

There cannot be too many drabbles on this forum. They are an excellent way to start writing and the 100 word constraint is very liberating.

A liberating constraint? (I have a hunch this guy keeps a pair of handcuffs and a feather next to his bed.)
Seriously, I think most drabbles, including mine, don't get reworked enough. One thing about 100 words is, there's only one way to do them perfectly.

You are so right there. I don't know what I'd do if the forums didn't have an "edit" button. From big things like clumsy sentences that just don't flow quite right, to noticing you used the same noun twice and need to reference the internal thesaurus, the value of re-reading and tuning out those problems has to be considered a fundamental skill to work on.

How did you know?

I agree that drabbles need a little care and attention to make them flow, but the 100 word constraint means that when you are done you are done and everybody can get on with their life.

ROU I do not see a consensus emerging on you poll yet.

Consesus, nope, don't see one yet either. Of course it does seem that this particular drabble forum is lurked by a few dedicated perusers.

Still one can assume that the drabbles so far that have gotten a vote, must have some more little pull than the ones that haven't receive notes.

And at least I haven't gotten any "Please stop writing drabbles, dammit" replies.

No, but we will have to start charging you soon. It takes server space to store these things, and that means carbon footprint. Hope you're stocked up on credits.

That'd be an interesting drabble: a carbon foot.

Keep them coming ROU, it's a nice fix between DC's.

Oh don't worry, I will. :P

I just hope I can ratchet them up to the point where I can be part of a real drabblecast fix.

I'm trying to figure out what this total lack of concensus means.
I suppose it indicates a level of consitency.

Whether they are consistently bad, mediocre, or good, I'm not sure about though.

A bit surprised that "Fine Dining" didn't get any votes. I'd figured that a zombie buffet was gonna be a slam-dunk in the DC crowd.

I guess that your readers are consistently diverse.
