Panacea

There's a precise rhythm to the locks on Jeremiah's door.  He watches as first the third is undone, then the sixth.

They haven't figured out how to take the memories from clones. That's the problem, because without the lie that clones are born unconscious and never at any point exist as anything other than harvestable meat, this becomes murder.

Despite the twenty years of drinking he remembers, the liver underneath Jeremiah's no longer sallow skin is untouched and pristine.

The last lock slides home. The door creaks open. His own face stares back at him, yellow eyes bleary and fixed.

Ethical quandaries and grasping alcoholics in a sci-fi near world. That's a great debut.

This is a good one. There's a whole lot here packed into 100 words.
