“Thanks, man, I owe you one,” I said to the man who had held the door open for me while my hands had been too full to open it myself. It was a phrase spoken only to acknowledge the good deed. No response necessary.

But with an unnatural smile spreading across his face, the man had responded:

"You certainly do and I shall come to collect soon.”

I thought nothing of the odd response at the time or the days following. But now, at 3 in the morning, there’s a light knocking at my door.

I am afraid to answer.

How about these for titles...
  1. Literal interpretation
  2. The Asshole Always Knocks At An Inconvenient Hour
  3. Payback Time
  4. Creepy Debt Collector
Edit: Never mind :) "Return Favor" is good.

I'm tempted to go with "The Asshole Always Knocks At An Inconvenient Hour". :)

Opening the door when one's hands are full: one human soul. Hey, gotta pay a guy back somehow.
