The Ruby Heart

Post by Robin Oree » Wed Sep 16, 2015 7:08 pm

I tried everything. Scalpel. Corkscrew. .3mm drill bit. The chest that housed the Ruby Heart remained sealed.
Now, after years of scouring tomes and tombs, I unearthed the key. Its colour oscillates, from dull rust in daylight to impossibly rutilant at night. Teeth too serrated to be figurative.
“Forgive me,” I say to the stone-skinned creature strapped to my desk lamp with twist ties and looped rubber bands. It looks up at me with eyes that are cloudy globules of blood, suspended, somehow, in their sockets.
Then I turn the key and, at last, the Ruby Heart is mine.

Still (slowly) working my way through old posts... I like this one. I have the urge to get another pet, some twist ties and a few rubber bands.
