Sympathy for a Clown, Part 5: Origin Story

Post by ROU Killing Time » Wed Aug 12, 2009 4:12 am

Belle loved the irony of her name.

At the Autumnal Equinoxapalooza she had gone, withered toe to withered toe, against Baba Yaga for the "Most Hideous Crone" prize.

Hocking a sticky loogie into a bowl to moisten the glaze, she carefully painted each of the dull gumballs before her until they glowed with a vibrant sheen.

After they dried she gathered up the gumballs into a sack and tossed them at Bub, who sat idly in the corner, saying "Best be getting about your deliveries or you'll eat these yerself. Can't let all the Gummy's go hungry now, can we?"

(Ducks from Miss Grimsley, as I'm sure I'm about to get called to the front of the class for gerund-abuse one more time.)

Then again, maybe I pulled it off for once.

In this case, the verb you chose to gerundify was perfectly appropriate.
And, as a result, nice drabble!
