Testimony of Witness No. 5671 before the Special Presidential Investigative Commission. Leonard Drucker, thirty-one years old, unmarried, of 238 West 10th Street, New York City, Borough of Manhattan, employed as a salesman by the Har-Bern Office Partition Company of 205 East 42nd Street, New York City, Borough of Manhattan. Witness, being placed under oath, does swear and depose:
Well, I don’t know, the telephone woke me up about eight A.M. on that Wednesday morning. I grabbed at it, half falling out of bed, and finally managed to juggle it up to my ear. A girl’s voice was saying, “Hello, Lennie? Is that you, Lennie? Hello?”

Fantastic! I loved this story. Modern day stories are all about fancy was of explaining weird behavior. Back then it was just
Spoiler:
LSD.

Yep. Now it's always some weird metaphor for
Spoiler:
the author tripping on LSD when the story was written.

Back when he wrote it, this was novel. But now it's a 45 year old one-trick pony. But endearing that he'd include it to make his wife happy. Maybe his wife was the Queen of Hearts?

Hey, at least you're not from the south, where we had to listen to wags singsong, "Geritol, it's snake oil" -- where "oil" was pronounced the proper way. That is, it sounds just like "all". :)

Anyway, this story was similar to many a "Mad Men" episode... not bad, not excellent, but a fun collection of nostalgia. (It could have used a few more busty red-heads, though.)

All stories need more busty redheads.

HA!! Great story. Of course,
Spoiler:
nowadays, if you were to write a story about people tripping on LSD, you'd have to deal with the bad rap given it by all the guys who keep eating people's faces off. But maybe that would actually make a pretty good story, now that I think of it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that was a reference to one of my all-time favorite movies! I knew I liked you, Strawman. :) Wish more people would see it. Pure genius.

You're too young for that to be your favorite movie. Sure fit the Drabblecast tho, didn't it?

Gotta give this one a '"meh" - once the answer was revealed the description went on and on.

I would have at least liked to see the Army guys fall victim to the same phenomenon and there be an interesting effort to figure out what happened.
