Forum is over capacity.

Post by strawman » Wed Feb 03, 2010 8:43 pm

We're currently experiencing a high server load, please try again once the load lightens up. Thank you for your patience.

Don't tell me to come back later. As far as I'm concerned, my time is more valuable than yours. Add some damn cars to the damn choo-choo.

Yeah. I keep expecting to see "Too many tweets!" and a fail whale there.

I'm assuming that the issue is being on shared server ... which either gets a lot of traffic at 12PM EST and then somehow doesn't get unbusy from people's lunch breaks for several hours, or our British bros at 5PM GMT are all hopping on their favorite free forums and keeping the load going until about midnight their time (5PM mine).

In any case, wow howdy, what the frak? Is there an upgrade we can buy the DC?

What are you doing around here, soaking up forum capacity? Haven't you got a podcast to produce?

While I was trying to figure out what happened to Freeforums this morning (someone hosed up a database magic and like half their forums stopped working ... it was awesome; in the classical sense), I ran across some notes about what the forum error we've been seeing lately was all about.

Apparently there's some chat feature that was ill-optimized and some of the forums were using it heavily. Huh? A chat feature? That sounds dangerous in the hands of the Drabblecast community. :D

Well, I bought my microphone today and can see that most of the time usually spent overloading the forums will now be spent trying to figure out all of the ins and outs of audacity.

So, Strawman, tbaker, dreamrock, et al. You are all going to have to redouble your efforts to make sure that the forums remain over capacity.

Biggest problem I'll be facing is that my 5 year old daughter is fascinated by the whole recording process and is so anxious and eager to "help."

Okay, ROU, I just gotta ask. Knowing you a bit now, and picturing your eager little daughter, is there any chance that her name is ROUlette?

Anyway, a kickass name for a little girl. As long as you're not from Russia.

haha.

No, my little ROUlette's name is Allison. She is pretty much the cutest little girl in the world.

OK, maybe I'm biased, but we do get lots of independent confirmation.

I'm thinking of letting her voice the title of the podcast.

I am gonna have a disclaimer though, that the podcast isn't intended for children. Not that it's adult stuff (I guess everyone here knows that) but it's not really aimed at the kid market.

Oh, it's good for the kids. Besides, I don't think I've read you write anything that is actually offensive except to people who dislike opinions that aren't their own.

And those people need offending.

oh yes, i know. It's more making sure it's reaching the target demographic more than anything else.

Someone might see Clowns and Bunnies and miss the "and other scary things" part and think that it's a kid show.

Of course the 10's or 100's of listeners I get will probably mostly get driven from promo's such as I hope to get on a few of our favorite podcasts who's names shall go unmentioned in this post.

If I ever get my podcast off the ground (shoulda kicked off in January, but work surprises hosed my schedule), I'll happily play promos for yours. Of course, I'll probably be at 10's of listeners too for awhile.

I hate that OverCapacity bullcrap. We should be the ones making ad-rev and chucking targeted marketing like "Killer Jellyfish proof wetsuits" at you folks.
How dare their free service impinge on my convenience!?!
Sarcasm aside, how dare them!??
Let's buy a nook and move this bitch. I hear property is cheap in south dakota these days...

Yeah. And it would cost us five extra dollars to move to South Carolina instead 'cuz we'd have to register as a subversive organization.

Don't you need to be Sioux to buy property in South Dakota now?

My friend tells me:

old83south: I check out freeforums, they use phpbb, which is free if you have a godaddy hosting accout. You are look at about 6.99/month. You would also need a domain name, which runs 9.99 or 1.29 if you buy hosting at the same time

My guess is the ad revenue would pay for this, plus we'd finally be able to count our traffic. Wanna do it?
