Building on Josh Peters's idea...

Post by dookiedan » Thu Jul 24, 2014 9:45 pm

As the Caution Children approached, my car slowed. Not by my doing - this is but one of the powers of these faceless youth.

It's the Slow Children vs the Caution Children:

I waited for what seemed eternity. Morning stretched into afternoon. How long for the slow children to finish playing?

On the subject of signs

Post by SpareInch » Fri Jul 25, 2014 5:51 am

“THANK YOU FOR NOT SMOKING,” read the sign. I scratched my head in confusion. How the hell did they know I wasn’t smoking?

Well, maybe you're not "Smoke'n", but hopefully you're at least "adorkable".

Any irony-loving arsonist couldn't resist such a sign.
He would need to stick around for a picture, for his collection.

Caught up in huge waves of bliss and joy the defiant couple got carried away and devoured each other in a final act of love.

Getting a reaction

Rightsizing my thoughts

Post by dookiedan » Fri Jul 25, 2014 6:50 pm

My story morphed repeatedly. 99. 101. Why can't I fit it? Hasn't anyone around here heard of tolerance? Damn thesaurus.

Beware of the fat man

Post by dookiedan » Fri Jul 25, 2014 7:33 pm

He had reason for being so fat. It hid hideous things. Others did not know what his weight concealed. But soon they would.

I once submitted a drabble that was only 68 words. The reaction did not reflect an appreciation for the intended irony. I mean, what do you do when a thought just isn't worth a hundred words? Paint it with bullpoo? Without the bullpoo, it's a better story.
These competing values, "Rules Are Important" vs. "Painting with Bullpoo" All said in just 68 words.

Are you two racists?! The content of your character(s) matters not. It's what pigeon hole we can put you in, that counts.

Have you read Terry Pratchett's short story collection, A Flick Of The Screen? There is a Drabble in there which TP padded out with one of his trademark footnotes. Now getting a footnote into a 100 char format... THAT would be a challenge! (Phew! Got my post back on topic!)

Yes, it is a frustration. But that is the challenge!!! I enjoy it really- anytime I have to rethink something which is almost right is a chance to improve myself. My boss and my wife make me do that often!

He frowned at the two sexy apparitions hovering over his bed. "When I asked for 18 year old spirits, I meant single malt."
“It’s what you do with it that counts.” But, one look at his twabble convinced her. A double entendre’s size does matter.

Very nice. Ever heard the song "women without whiskey" by the Drive-by Truckers? Whiskey's hard to beat

Don't lose your head

Post by dookiedan » Mon Jul 28, 2014 2:22 pm

As my head landed in the basket I glanced up. During my final moment of life the red and silver of the blade were beautiful.
