NZ man convicted of assault with hedgehog

I'm going to let this story speak for itself. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I have relatives living in Whakatane.

(As a sidenote, the phoneme spelt 'wh' in Maori words is pronounced 'f'. You have to be very careful talking about this place in polite company!)

If you outlaw hedgehogs, only outlaws will have hedgehogs.

Don't feel to bad, I grew up in a small midwestern town, you could substitute "muskrat" or "squirrel" for "hedgehog" in the story and it would be close to stories I've heard.

When the boy's mother intervened to prevent a second throw, Singalargh pulled down his trousers and exposed his buttocks.

"He admitted to having been in possession of a hedgehog," police Constable Lyndon Reid said.
Ah, but was he really in possession of his buttocks? That sounds like the real crux of the legal battle, here.
