The Prefect is great, and gives more of an idea than previous stories of life in pre-plague circum-Yellowstone society, and the Revelation Space universe short stories and novellas (the former collected in Galactic North, which I'm just finishing a last few stories in, and two of the latter published in one volume as Diamond Dogs, Turquoise Days) are maybe even better -- I don't remember if it was you or someone on the Escape Pod forums complaining about it, but the problem Reynolds has with properly ending series and novels is largely averted in his shorter works.
