Wow, put that one in the "Ridiculous Kickstarter Campaigns that Somehow Received Funding" hall of fame!
(Like I can talk, right? :D )

Dude, where's my Mokèlé-mbèmbé?

People out there gave these bro's 27K to romp around the Congo for 3 months looking for dinosaurs?!

Isn't that what your dad's trust fund is for?

They're all in their early to mid-twenties, with no real credentials-- one "went to school for biology" (bro-ology?) but it doesn't say grad/undergrad or if he even finished. This can't possibly end well. Best case scenario someone gets to make out with Jennifer Garner's character before each of them is pulled, one-by-one, into the murky river basin by the long-necked phallic-looking reptile done in poor CGI and glimpsed briefly through obligatory documentary-style camera shakiness.
"Zoology enthusiasts" indeed, from Kickstart to obit art.

If you haven't read Drums Along the Congo by Rory Nugent BTW you should totally pick it up, it's fantastic--http://www.amazon.com/Drums-Along-Congo ... 0395670713
He goes about the expedition as a journalist, (a bit more reasonable than attempting the legit science angle) and the sheer amount of bureaucratic bullcrap he has to deal with from the Congolese gov is pretty staggering. But once he gets going he really draws you into the world; the native folklore, immense and mysterious jungles, the vibrant, peculiar social structures of Africa.

If those 5 college kids do eventually get through the government redtape they've definitely got their work cut out for them. But at least they'll have that 27K worth of Miller Lite in tow!

Yours is FICTION (very good fiction) and they are now 27K worth of PBR to make fools of themselves in the Congo. While I envy them a little I also think that money could fund other projects like solar powered ping pong tables.

I suspect that Kickstarter teamed with the Discovery Channel and put their own money into this one. The more it makes Norm lick his lips, the more likely it is to be an advertising P*NK.

Connor Choadsworth ought to apply to guide this expedition.

Could also have Choadsworth's next expedition funded by Creationists since there are some who support cryptozoology thinking that finding a living dinosaur would disprove evolution.

It would be truly ironic if Conner were not a creationist.
