Armadillo - A tough shell, but susceptible to crossing roads in New Mexico
Buffalo - If it melds with any flying animal, we will have real buffalo wings.
Giraffe - You know they have got to have a mean streak in them.
Manatee - Oh the huge manatee!!!!!
Slug / Snail - Tough shell, slippery slime, but weak against sea creatures.
Badger - It can multiply: Badger Badger Badger Badger Badger Badger Badger Badger Badger Badger!

I'll go for that if we can get a Red Dwarf tie in.bolddeceiver wrote:StalinSays wrote: So maybe some play on Psirenian?

Re: The List
looks like this battle might be all about terrain so we'll need a good spectrum across land, sea & air.
squid, sloth, owl, polar bear, hornet (tunneling type), walrus
i'm disappointed that neither penguins or beavers are represented. beaver built remote turrets!

list thoughts
My personal feeling is that if the list goes further over 50 (its already 52), it starts spiraling out of control. Bad ass animals, such as the Grizzly and the Wolf (and the um... Unicorn), are already completely lost in the pack: why add more to this displaced caste? I think it's just the nature of these kind of lists to see what isn't there first, what is second.
Also, as previously noted, write-in campaigns are completely legal. I'm totaling the list of votes, to feed in to the web page form voting that launches later today, and I'll tabulate the excluded animals' total mentions. If they really are significant enough, they'll be honored over a listed prelim candidate (and dubbed 'the people's champ').

count - write-in's
So this is the loose count for write-in's. Since they draw the short end of the stick being off the master list, I afford them the counting advantage of 'by mention.' For the sake of his chances, I'm lumping together Gopher/Lemming. At this venture, he shoots right up in to 'the likely.'
Write-In's
-----------
Gopher / Lemming - 4
Anthrax / Germs - 2
Chigger - 2
Penguin - 2
Blue Jay - 1
Catfish - 1
Michael Vick - 1
Rat - 1

another reply
It's now a run-off between The Mavericks, Warriors, and Nuggets for that last spot.
I want to believe in the Platypus's chances, but Hillary Clinton polls better with working class families.

the official link
http://www.bokaier.com/mega-beasts/
This folks is your official form voting location for the rest of the Mega-Beast competition, including the last week of the prelims. It has been fed all forum votes up to this point, and will receive any further forum votes when the final tally is made Sunday.
Don't be weirded by the URL - Bo's PHP page had some bad mojo with the drabblecast's hosting home, so for the sake of convenience, we're running the vote off of his site as a satellite. The Drabblecast.org Mega-Beast page contains the MP3 feed and episode archives for the podcast. Both spots have subscription links.
Voting is limited to once per day, continue your personal campaigns, and also spread the word and send this link to whoever you may meet (who is in to the thought of furry mutants disemboweling each other for sport).

warming
God bless global warming for it's contribution to super-sized abominations. Count me as a second for super hare.
Re: the official link
I'm not weirded out by the URL but am weirded out by the reference to "dude cow". WTH is that? Brings back memories of that horrific animated movie The Barnyard in which they had male "cows" complete with udders! The film-makers couldn't grasp basic biology.

Re: the official link
THANK YOU!!! My gawd what a stupid choice. Let's see... we'll make this movie G-rated by putting bare tits on all the bovines. NO gender confusion at all....Goldenrat wrote:I'm not weirded out by the URL but am weirded out by the reference to "dude cow". WTH is that?
