You're right, this round was hard enough... I had to axe Clown Eggs, Charlie the Purple Giraffe, Over the Walls of Eden and The Year Disco Came Back.
Next round will be unbearable.

I love this time of year. You get to recollect all your favorite fictions, gather your receipts, and fill out those tax forms.

1) #109 The Babel Probe
2) #125 Clown Eggs
3) #113 Charlie the Purple Giraffe Had a Problem
4) #123 Toast
5) #122 The Fallen and the Muse

Trifectas ought to have their own category, since size matters. Dinosaur and A Baker's Dozen make my A list.

This "nomination" process is actually some sort of covert psychological evaluation test, isn't it, Norm?

Don't think that you're fooling us. We may be crazy, but we ain't stoopid... :)

Oh good, someone else remembered this ass-kickin' story.

I am predicting a Toast vs Dinosaur match.

I personally don't understand all the love for Dinos. Babel Probe is by far my favorite. Ashurbanipal? Criminy!

I think that dinosaurs gets a real boost from the production and the cast. I agree that Toast is going to be a strong contender, though I think that more votes could well bring Clown Eggs along. I mean, when it comes to strange stories, I think that Clown Eggs is one of the strangest to ever appear on the 'cast.

That goes for Toast too. It was just too easy to imagine the happy little toast creatures playing DDR and the pathos of their destruction at the hands of the boyfriend.

I liked Babel Probe and all, but I liked the bbardle better. I just didn't get a "wow this is one of the greatest things I've ever heard," vibe from the story. Not that there was anything wrong with it.

With so many good stories every week, something has to not make the cut, and for me, Babel was in that category.

To each his own.

Yeah, I certainly liked Babel, didn't love it.

Dinosaurs made me laugh until my sides hurt, it's a dinosaur with guns trying to drive cars.

Clown Eggs didn't do it for me at all. It was like trying too hard to be creepy.

Yes, that's why it's going to be very interesting to see how this all shakes out. Lots of cross-overs, lots of stories that are hits for some and not for others.

How does round two work? Top 5 vote getters?

Even without the benefit of having heard all the episodes in 2009, this was a really hard decision to make. I ended up taking Jay Lake's story off so I would have space for The Elves Hate You and still seriously wish I'd had space to put Jeeze Louise on there.

Drabblecast 145- Varmits! by Steve Lowe
Drabblecast 140-Bubbles Surge From Froth by Frank Key
Drabblecast 139- Let Us Now Praise Awesome Dinosaurs by Leonard Richardson
Drabblecast 136- The Great Old Pumpkin by John Aegard
Bsides 8- The Elves Hate You by Matthew Bey
