Unread posts, difficult to spot?

I've got a little nit to pick, maybe ASID can help.
Recent designs for Drabbleclassics in the forums have made it difficult to spot unread posts. Instead of coming up yellow highlighted until read, I have to check out the dates and times to find out why the 'Read' thread is still yellow after I have read all the posts.
This seems to be the result of combining Classics with Stories and with bumped order list.

For the record, I've always had trouble with the "unread" and "read" icons appearing more or less at their own whim. Sometimes I've had to try two or three times to get a forum to read as "read" from the main page. I've just chalked it up to "software is weird and the Internet is a hodge-podge of conflicting ideosyncratic programs."

I'm not sure what you're seeing. The unread posts work for me and for my test account the same way that most other phpBB forums handle unread posts.

There's nothing different about the story/Drabbleclassics subforum except that:

1. There are 6 pinned topics at a time (the latest 3 stories and the latest 3 classics).
   Pinned stories are up top even if they aren't the last to be updated.
2. The Classics icon makes it harder to see the yellow, unread folder. BUT, the unread quicklink is still there:

You can click that little red quicklink to go straight to the first unread post in the thread. Each unread post is marked with a similar little red square.

Note that if there are additional pages to the thread and you don't click the next page links, then that thread will still be marked as (partially) unread.

The little gray box, in the LAST POST column, takes you to the very last post, whether it's unread or not.

I'm with ASID on this. It all seems to work fine as far as I can tell.

I also use the "Subscribe to...." links at the foot of forums and topics, so I get emails when new posts are made.

The DrabbleClassics is what's difficult to spot. I hadn't noticed the little square boxes before. Is that what to look for?

Yes, look for those as you can also click them to go straight to the unread post(s).

I expect the problem with people getting the read/unread to display wrong, is either their computer or the ISP is caching a copy of the page when they shouldn't. It works for me, but I've visited other phpBB forums which do have an issue with unread appearing correctly. If you are unsure, click the refresh button in your browser to request the page again, that can help.

That's mostly what I do, yeah. Click in, then back out, try refreshing a few times. I usually get it eventually, and if not it's generally gone after a reboot. *shrugs* Computers are weird.
