In heaven, Sam Clemens added another check to his scoreboard. “I can’t help it if everyone on earth thinks every famous saying was mine!” he said with a smug shrug.

“He didn’t even get it right,” Benjamin Franklin growled. “At least it didn’t go to Disraeli. I hate it when they attribute my words to damn cheaters.”

The former Prime Minister gave Franklin a dirty look. “Give it up, Ben. I actually did say that bit about lies and statistics.”

I like this one. It touches on my life, as people are constantly misattributing things to me. Usually under oath.

The odd thing is, it's true--if there's a clever or funny saying, people are more likely to attribute it to Mark Twain (or Oscar Wilde) than any of the other plausible wits of the world--not to mention the original speaker/writer.
