Birthday

Was Ayn Sauer's birthday today, so I wrote this for her.

Birthday

Richard turns 48 today, and just like every other day the lonely man wakes up in a cold, silent apartment. Nobody ever remembers Richard’s birthday; not his coworkers at the robotics lab, not even his elderly mother. He will go the entire day without a gift, a card, even a birthday wish. And so Richard decides it is time to make people remember this day.

His coworkers briefly wonder where he is, then panic when they notice it missing. His senile, old mother sees him on television, gliding over rooftops on a chrome-plated pterodactyl. She nods off back to sleep.

I fell sadly behind on my drabblecasts for awhile, but I've been doing hour-long commutes for work recently, so I'm basically caught up now.

Hey Norm, you completely forgot MY birthday! Does that mean that our love is over? I was hoping you would one day jump on a plane, fly to teh Netherlandz and we could sing and play on the ukelele. I was kinda hoping that you would come with Hillary when she was here yesterday, but I didn't see you in the crowd.

Oh, but I'm talking about me again. Ayn, great that you're back, we need more femininity here. And happy belated birthdays :)

Haha, I appreciate you're concern that he's the right guy for me. But never fear! He is drabblish (you'll believe me when you see the ring), and yes, he knows about Marbles (our cat doesn't, though). He designs video games for his livelihood.

To be fair, I had been raving about the ring for awhile, but I didn't know for sure he'd get it for me.

He previously worked on Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (Sony), and now works for TimeGate Studios which would be best known for Kohan... I'll go ahead and put in a plug for a game they're releasing this fall, Section 8. If you like Halo-type FPS games, you'll enjoy this one: http://www.joinsection8.com/

Section 8: I've heard of that. Like Starship Troopers (the book, not the movies). Dudes in powered armor skydiving from low orbit is always cool.

Unless you're the enemy, of course, in which case is would be somewhat less cool.

Well, if your fiancé likes octopus rings, girls who write about eye-gouging and has a healthy regard for powered-armor skydiving, I'd say that adds up to a good reputation.
