The Last Damocles
Wo-Man's silver form trembled upon the throne, an avatar of the interconnected and unified Minds comprised of humanities quadrillions who had reached their penultimate evolutionary form.
They beheld within themselves the potentials for limitless creativity and complexity.
They shuddered at the realization that just as easily with a thought, they could destroy all.
Dionysius spoke.
"I have kept my part, Wo-Man and you now know what I've felt upon the throne. Come forth."
Stepping down from the dais, a thundering crack deafened them all as the gossamer strand snapped, sending the dark sword of oblivion crashing into the throne below.

Found it - the drabble makes that much more sense now, and is quite possibly that much more awesome as well.

You have the Sword of Damocles element.
You have the Wo-Man element.
You have the mind-meld of quadrillions element.
Is Damocles the silver avatar?
Too much guessing to know precisely what is intended.
But the Damocles element is all about the burden of precarious security.
To cut the thread is to eliminate the burden, rending the point as well as the thread.

I must say that, even before looking things up to have any idea what was going on, I liked the imagery. From "penultimate evolutionary form" to "gossamer strand", it seemed like while there was certainly something going on, it really didn't matter. One of those cases where the journey is more important than the destination, I suppose.

Eek, you bumped my least favorite drabble to the top...
Shame on you...
/waggles finger
Quick post a reply to Sympathy for a Clown, or Perchance to Dream.
I'm actually kinda proud of those.
(re-reading it, I guess it doesn't suck quite as badly as I previously thought, so I figured I'd note that. not enough to bump it by making a new post, but enough to edit my last post on the topic...)
I like the "Penultimate" line too, but mostly just because it's such a good SF word. My favorite SF title of all-time is PKD's "The Penultimate Truth"
