With little thought I end everything. A push of a button. A slight smile that twisted across my face and bled into a grimace.
Inside the containment unit my subject was unaware. Unaware of the biological nightmare that now coursed through his veins. This man, my patient zero, was now a viral time bomb.
Another button press, an exit opens wide. He runs into the open, waiting and ultimately doomed world outside. The gun barrel slips into my mouth and I gag at the taste.
I consider watching the world die in bleeding, screaming agony.
Instead, I pull the trigger.
My first attempt. And my first post.
The Beginning of the End
The Beginning of the End
....and then I hit it with the shovel.

Re: The Beginning of the End
Second Pants. Nice drabble. I must say your character shows remarkable self-control, overcoming that strong megalomaniacal compulsion to stick around at least for the action to start. Like back in the the old days. (Now those megalomaniacs were real men.)
And yet, if the Bond movies and Vin Diesel have taught us anything at all, it is that the villain should kill first, then gloat later. What if, just as your man pulls the trigger, Patient Zero remembers he's left his keys back in the cell?
All your evil brains splattered on the floor, and the world goes whistling obliviously on...

Never judge anyone until you have biopsied their brain.

Re: The Beginning of the End
strawman, I respectfully disagree. I think the narrator's suicide was the best way to avoid suffering the consequences of his actions. Perfectly cowardly, perfectly villainous. In other words, nailed it.
